My friend from Russia relayed this great anecdote to me that her father told her back in the 1920s
Way back, In Roman times (when people were carrying crosses around I guess). There were three men who travelled together - each had a cross to bear on the journey. Each cross was different in size, shape, weight, balance, etc . As they moved along on their journey, each man complained about his cross. After a bit of deliberation, they all decided to exchange crosses in hopes that their trip would be made easier. After the exchange, each man realized that they were much happier with their original load.
"I have nothing to gripe to god about."
